Blue Square Art Exhibition

Blue Square Art Exhibition

The Blue Square Annual Art Competition and Exhibition commemorates the life and work of ArtHead Co-founder Bob Millis, who died in 2017. Bob’s philosophy as an art teacher and painter was that all forms of visual art – painting, watercolour, drawing, gouache, acrylics, photography, soft materials and sculpture, enabled an artist to express themself and share their vision with the viewer in whatever medium they wished. Teaching people how to access that creative spirit, which resides in every human being, was central to Bob’s view of life. To enable everyone to draw together, the concept of the Blue Square – a calming primary colour as a theme, in a shape and size to which all artworks would adhere, would unify the varying artists’ expression, giving a wide scope for diverse interpretation. A 40cm square would ensure that, as a body of work, they would have unity. In this way individual entrants would be viewed for their various contributions to creative ideas, rather than on size or other variations that would lose that unity. The annual Blue Square Exhibition is about togetherness; it’s about sharing Bob’s joy in sharing creative discovery, and Sonja Millis’s continued commitment to those beliefs -something we share today in the works by all the artists who have brought together this collective body of work

Featuring music by Stolen Moments Trio: Kjell Goyer (guitar), Julian Paviour (trumpet) and Bertie McMahon (double bass) with special guest vocalist Tasha Hodges, who will weave the songs’ lyrics into her presentation and interpretation. The evening will transform the Gallery into an intimate musical space for the audience to soak in the ambience of the visually stunning Blue Square exhibition.Words fail me when it comes to an exhibition that brings together my two loves: jazz music, and visual art. I’m sure you feel the same way. This website’s description really won’t do justice to it, and that’s why I’d like to invite you personally to the Blue Square Festival — Jazz in the Gallery. It will combine the best of jazz with visual art through a feast to the senses.
